May is Gaelic Nova Scotia Month

Wednesday, May 1, 2024

May is Gaelic Nova Scotia Month | Mìos nan Gàidheal! A time to celebrate and promote awareness of the history, culture, language, contributions, and achievements of Gaels across the province. This year's theme is "Gàidhealach ’nar Cridhe | Gaelic at Heart!"

The Gaelic language of these settler Gaels is sometimes referred to as Gaelic in Nova Scotia and is an aspect of daily living in parts of the province to this day. Gaelic cultural expression through fiddle and pipe music and song provide a rich musical experience. Dance, storytelling, local history and customs are part of community living. The famous "kitchen party", now referred to as a "céilidh" which means a visit is a common occurrence and is a great way to share language, song, music, dance, and story.

There will be lots happening around Nova Scotia and beyond in the month of May.
