Identify, Prevent, and Eliminate Accessibility Barriers

Tourism Nova Scotia (TNS) is collaborating with the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia (TIANS) on an initiative to support the tourism industry to identify, prevent, and eliminate accessibility barriers. This is a phased approach to “Improving Accessibility in the Tourism Industry”. 

During Phase 2: Examining the Tourism Industry’s State of Readiness, TNS created Accessibility Tip Sheets & Spotlights with ways to help enhance experiences for visitors with disabilities.

Information on ways for businesses to enhance their services, amenities and experiences for visitors with disabilities.

Access and Inclusion for Visitors with Disabilities
Provides engagement strategies, product enhancement suggestions, and resources to help make your Nova Scotia tourism business more accessible and welcoming for visitors of all abilities.

Accommodation Sector
Provides ways to enhance services, improve amenities and offers tips on how to provide an inclusive guest experience for people with disabilities.

Activities, Festivals, & Events Sector
Provides ways to enhance services, improve amenities, and offers tips and tools to help businesses become more inclusive and welcoming to people with disabilities.

Food & Beverage Sector
Provides resources, tips, and tools to be an open and accommodating business for people with disabilities.

Transportation Sector
Provides ways to enhance services, improve ease of access and offers tips on how to provide an inclusive guest experience for people with disabilities.

Showcasing the amazing work businesses are doing to create more accessible and inclusive spaces. 

1365 Church Street Vineyard & Winery
1365 Church Street Vineyard & Winery is wheelchair accessible, providing a ramp up to the winery door and support rails to make movement easier for everyone. Upon arrival, visitors with disabilities can find signs for designated, preferred parking.

Eastern Front Theatre, Neptune Theatre and Zuppa Theatre
See how Eastern Front Theatre, Neptune Theatre and Zuppa Theatre are using things like touch tours, ASL interpretation, and heightened narration to make live performances more accessible.

Marine Atlantic 
Marine Atlantic offers curbside assistance at its terminals, which provides passengers with support for navigation, baggage, ticket purchasing, wheelchair assistance, and other service requests. All terminals and vessels provide both visual and verbal announcements.

Mersey River Chalets & Nature Retreat and Super 8 Amherst
Mersey River Chalets & Nature Retreat and Super 8 Amherst take into consideration the built environment throughout the grounds, ensuring everyone can enjoy the various experiences and activities open to all visitors.
